A recent report that examined the impact of these adverse childhood experiences such as abuse, neglect, bullying, dysfunctional family or authoritarian parenting, illness, medical procedures etc on academic outcomes found that communities with higher ACE scores had higher rate of absenteeism and poor academic performance, behavioural concerns, increased substance use and other mental health concerns.
More and more children, teenagers and youth are exposed to trauma and adverse life experiences (ACEs) at an alarming rate, both in India and abroad.
The primary goal of all educational institutions is educational achievement of the students. To attain this goal, students must feel safe , supported and ready to learn
IT IS THEREFORE A NECESSITY AND NOT A CHOICE.
For all schools to recognise the influence of each student’s personal experiences on their learning and academic growth.
An increasing number of children are presenting with mental health issues in schools, and conventional teaching environments are straining to keep up. Many children have a high ACE score (many adverse childhood experiences), which has been linked to mental and physical health problems later in life, as well as early death.
According to a survey conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), 23% of Indian schoolchildren have mental health disorders, schools are frequently left holding them.
Interacting or working with a student who has suffered trauma can have an influence on other students, and adults on campus in addition to the specific child who is affected by the event.
Therefore, although educational institutions continue to place a high priority on learning and performance, they also need to recognize the vital role that mental health and wellbeing plays in students' academic success as well as the development of a positive school climate.
From the ACE study to practical implementation, our interventions are based on over 1000 cutting-edge research studies in neuroscience, medicine, and psychology.
