Why should organizations care about trauma and attachment - informed workplaces?

Employee retention and attraction are vital concerns in the current competitive job market. Research indicates that employees are choosing their jobs increasingly in light of factors like meaning, purpose, and well-being including mental health, family, and social relationships.

DID YOU KNOW?

An organization's psychological safety and trauma-informed work environment provides a strong basis for addressing these concerns that employees are now taking strongly into account when deciding whether to accept a job offer or stay with it. Trauma and stress can have an impact on one's sense of security, making them feel helpless in what they perceive to be a dangerous world. Trauma survivors may have overwhelming feelings and find it difficult to trust others, cope, or function well in a group. Individuals who have experienced trauma lose their ability to solve problems and think creatively and they face more workplace conflict. However THEY CAN move into the social engagement system and become more innovative, productive, and cooperative with others by working in a trauma-informed atmosphere.

IT’S TIME TO CHANGE OURSELVES, BECAUSE THE TREND ISN’T CHANGING ANYTIME SOON

It is now more important than ever for enterprises to address the people-related risk that the pandemic has worsened, according to a new Mercer Marsh research.

There is still considerable amount of stigma and discrimination happening with people who experience mental health challenges as they are either turned down for a job, paid lesser salaries, or are apprehensive looking for work in the first place if they disclose their struggles and challenges. Although a lot of organizations offer Employee Assisted Programs (EAP), in spite of that the usage of the word ‘Trauma’ is forbidden. Several EAP providers lack Trauma-Informed practices and fail to teach how important it is for workplaces to support their employees mental, emotional and physical health in creating a sense of safety, as well as feeling valued and supported.

THERE’S STILL MILES TO GO AND WE CAN SUPPORT YOU IN YOUR JOURNEY

The question is- How can employers and leaders shift workplace cultures to better prioritize and support mental health?

At Manushee are committed towards creating trauma, mental health and attachment informed, highly engaged and attuned workplaces where safety, dignity and presence is consistently honored and experienced. We work towards creating an environment that supports all employees and not just those identified as having trauma or trauma-related disorders. We do this by educating and cultivating a responsible and supporting attitude amongst employees so that…

  • They are able to recognise red flags of Traumatic and Chronic Stress to aid prevention before issues emerge
  • Communicate effectively and compassionately in times of crisis and support those they lead in becoming more resilient
  • How team leaders may support people and teams affected by traumatic events by implementing trauma-informed approaches
  • Leadership behaviours that promote resiliency and recovery in the workplace

  • We believe that leaders who are prepared to change—to learn, unlearn, and relearn—will be the ones to tackle the problems of the twenty-first century, by making the workplace a safe and restorative place for its employees.

We train leaders at every level of the organisation on the skills necessary to sustain positive peace and dignity.
THIS MAY NOT BE EASY. BUT IT WILL BE WORTH IT, AS THE BENEFITS WILL ACRUE TO BOTH WORKERS AND THE ORGANISATIONS.
